Computer-Based Training, in my opinion, differs from normal interactive multimedia in the fact that these programs are designed to teach a skill or set of skills that can be measured and tested. Multimedia may just contain information or "edutainment". Computer-Based Training, or CBT, must include testing throughout the program to ensure that the user fully understands the tasks being shown and can, in fact, perform a job upon its completion. Below are a few recent examples of CBT that I have created. I specialize in the conversion of existing print-based training material into interactive computer-based training programs with very rapid turn-around time.

Georgia Dept. of Technical and Adult Education
Komatsu Web-Based Training
This is the interface in which Komatsu technicians, operators, sales, marketing, and support uses to access an extensive library of on-line computer-based training through a customized learning management system. These courses cover the four main products developed by Komatsu. These are the dozers, trucks, wheel loaders and excavators.

Coding Metrix Web-Based Training
This represents one course of a series of courses within one curriculum purchased through e-commerce. This is one curriculum on Interventional Radiology which is comprised of 1200 frames of instruction. This is one of may other curricula such as Radiation Oncology, Cardiology, Pain Management, Pediatrics, Family Medicine and Pathology. The performance of each student is tracked online through a learning management system.

Coding Strategies, Inc., Introduction to Interventional Radiology
This CBT program covers, in detail, the variety of insurance codes that are associated with many different medical procedures associated with interventional radiology. These procedures include catheterization, angioplasty, stent placement, filters, and much more. Several sections use 3D animation to describe details of various anatomical systems and how these interventional radiological procedures are used within these systems. There are over 50 examples described, in detail, scenarios in which interventional radiology is used as well as the codes associated with each procedure discussed.

Coding Metrix Web-Based Training
This represents one course of a series of courses within one curriculum purchased through e-commerce. This is one curriculum on Orthopedic Spinal Medical Coding. This course was the predecessor for a program that was originally called P.A.C.E. or Professional Association of Coder Education.

Coding Strategies, Inc., Introduction to Interventional Cardiology
This CBT program covers, in detail, the variety of insurance codes that are associated with many different medical procedures associated with interventional cardiology. These procedures include angioplasty, stent placement, atherectomy, thrombolysis, bypass and much more. Several sections use 3D animation and digital video to describe details of various anatomical systems and how these interventional cardiology procedures are used within these systems. There are over 50 examples described, in detail, scenarios in which interventional cardiology is used as well as the codes associated with each procedure discussed.

SKC, Inc. Polyester Film Forming Operation
This CBT program was designed to teach new employees the entire process of created polyester film. SKC, a company from South Korea, built a 1.2 Billion dollar plant in Georgia and needed to hire trained personnel from the local population. This program was designed for that purpose. By the time the construction of the plant was complete, SKC could hire fully trained people from the local town. This, naturally, caused major growth, immediate and residual, for that town.

Sony Disc Manufacturing
This program, as the title suggests, was created for Sony. This program was designed to teach the people responsible for keeping the CD creation process up and running. There are many pieces of equipment in this process. Each piece of equipment has its own set of diagnostic and testing procedures. The ultimate goal is to get the production line back online with very little downtime. Each test is covered along with the causes for specific scenarios. This program was so successful that it was put on a computer on a mobile cart in the production area just to help troubleshooting problems and reduce downtime.

Ciba Vision - Fully Lathed Toric Lenses Manufacturing Process
Like the Sony program, this CBT was designed to eliminate problems in the production process of toric contact lenses for astigmatic vision. Not only did this serve as an effective CBT program, but it also served as a troubleshooting tool used to ensure proper settings of actual lens cutting. A combination of digitized video and 3D animation was used to depict the concepts and processes used.

Merck Pharmaceuticals Distillation Process Training
This program was a very basic CBT program used to teach the two different processes of chemical distillation at Merck's Pharmaceutical plant. Digitized photographs and complex graphics were used to depict the processes and procedures to include troubleshooting and emergency shutdown procedures.

Komatsu America Computer-Based Training
Komatsu develops training for their products in a world-wide market. These training programs are operator and technical training programs for the construction and mining equipment market. All training is developed, converted and delivered in a Flash format using PowerPoint and Articulate as a springboard. Training programs cover very large mining trucks, bulldozers, excavators, and much more.
